Wolf
by Sharon Loper
Installed at
the Wells Fargo Bank rotating sculpture site.
CAP is very
proud to have Sharon Loper’s “WOLF” installed
at our Wells Fargo rotating sculpture site. The artist attended
the November unveiling by our mayor, Toni Iseman. Sharon’s
work was the first choice of CAP’s Selection Committee. The
female wolf, cast in bronze, is from her series, THE SANCTUARY,
which has been purchased and is in the permanent collection of the
Triton Museum of Santa Clara. The artist attended Otis Art Institute
and did graduate work at UCLA. She studied under a student of Rodin,
and was trained in the classical method. Loper works with the ‘lost
wax’ method and makes her own molds, oversees the bronze casting
and develops the patina. She achieves an expressive element by adding
clay to the wire armature. The piece takes on its own identity,
as the clay is spontaneously added to the wire armature. Sharon
states, “Each work has its own life and independence..”
Sharon Loper has distinguished herself in this country and abroad,
as a talented and dedicated sculptor. She has received numerous
awards and honors and is included in private and public collections
including the LA Zoo, the Musuem of Science and Industry, The Wild
Animal Park and the Katten Kabinet in Holland. She is represented
by Diane Nelson, now in Corona del Mar.
Sharon has a
strong affinity with nature. She feels that wolves have a common
bond with humans, in that they mate for life and have a need for
community. Her work is expressive with universal appeal. She says,
“I look for truth, search for a voice that expresses wholeness
and harmony.”
