ABOUT US

We’re 25! Incorporated in 1998 by artists and former arts commissioners, CAP has stayed the course over a quarter of a century.

Our Mission remains: to increase the visibility and appreciation of art and serve as a catalyst for art education.

We have been busy at CAP, developing new collaborations with the community that allow us to continue to support Artists and provide Art for all to enjoy. Following our much-discussed exit from a 20-year relationship with Wells Fargo early last year, we have been fortunate to receive numerous opportunities to create exhibits in new spaces. The Arts community spoke and the message was that censorship of Art is not acceptable in Laguna Beach. Through our involvement with the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance, we’ve found resilience and support in creating a new path. Read on for a  snapshot of what’s been happening and where we are going.

CAP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, tax id: 33-0823225. Dues and contributions to CAP are tax deductible and help facilitate our art installations and educational programs.

MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to increase the visibility and appreciation of art and serve as a catalyst for art education.

Who we are ~ what we do ~ A little background ~ Community Art Project (CAP) is a non-profit arts organization established in 1998. Among the founding directors were former members of the Laguna Beach Arts Commission, whose vision was to fill needs not met by existing City and private art organizations, including the facilitation of placing art work on privately owned sites. Since its inception, CAP has partnered with dozens of artists and private property owners in the downtown area to install sculptures and murals in the public view.

“Be sure to see CAP’s latest mural installation Ripple Effect, dedicated in February 2022, located at 328 Glenneyre at corner of Mermaid Street. Created by Timothy Robert Smith with 14 students from his Mural Art Class at Laguna College of Art + Design.
